.1st.beach.trip

This past weekend we left for our annual family beach trip to Destin, Florida! We left Saturday morning, but before we left Abby got a little sick. It TERRIFIED US!

Thursday night we were late getting Abby to bed, which is about the norm these days. I had moved her back into our room in her pack n play because she was doing this weird reflux, spit up type thing and I felt more comfortable with her in there. I was late getting in bed and was having trouble sleeping. Just laying there thinking about our trip and what all I had to take, etc. I noticed Abby was making ALOT more noise than usual. Just little grunts and stuff. She started to cry a bit and something told me to check on her. I put my hand on her forehead to soothe her and it felt slightly warm, but not bad. Her cheeks were not hot at all so I got back in bed. A few minutes later she REALLY started crying! Instead of letting her cry it out for a few minutes, something told me to get up right away and see about her! THANKS GOODNESS I DID! I felt her again, but this time stuck my hand into her swaddle and her neck was SOAKED in sweat! I reached for her hand it it was also soaked! I immediately picked her up and stripped her! SHE WAS ON FIRE!! I woke Bo up and went and got the thermometer! 104.8!!! FREAKED ME OUT!! Bo was calm, but I could tell he was nervous. I immediately gave her Tylenol. I calmed down a bit, but when Bo told me we needed to go to the ER I got really worried! I wonder how long her temp had been that high! So we headed to the closest hospital, which was River Oaks - BAD MISTAKE!! We get there and they inform us that they do not do anything type of pediatrics. I asked if we needed to leave and they said no b/c they see babies sometimes and if she has to be admitted they would transfer her to UMC. I thought - no big deal, it's just a fever. Surly they can help us! Well, the doc ended up being a quack and the nurses couldn't get an IV started on my baby. The poked her so many times in each hand! It was a nightmare! We finally left and went to UMC. Long story short, Abby had a urinary tract infection! She got a shot and we were on our way home. We made it home about 7:30 Friday morning and off to sleep we went.

We were leaving for Florida the next day, but before we could leave Abby had to go get another shot at UMC. This took forever! She was due another shot the next day but because we were going out of town, they sent her home on some oral antibiotic. BIG MISTAKE! I would have rather skipped out on Florida just for the shot! This stuff has TORN my babies tummy to pieces. It has turned her poop a brownish red and caused some severe diaper rash! She is extra fussy on this mess! Only a few more days and we are done with it - thank goodness! We go to her regular pediatrician on Monday afternoon to make sure the infection is gone.

As for Florida, Abby did GREAT considering her illness! It rained nearly the entire time but we managed to get our pictures in! I knew we wouldn't be hanging on the beach anyway with an 8 week old so the weather didn't bother us a bit! Plus, Jenn is 28 weeks preggo, so she didn't mind either. We did lots of shopping and eating! It was good just to get away for a few days.
